Smile Makeover

A smile makeover is a highly individualized process that can correct one or many problems. It is designed around you: your smile, your cosmetic goals, and your oral health. Although a smile makeover is performed for cosmetic reasons, the process often includes restorative and/or periodontal treatment.

Your optimal health is always a priority at our practice, and it is critical for the longevity of cosmetic work. Smile makeovers often include a combination of procedures, such as porcelain veneers on misshapen teeth, dental crowns on damaged teeth, and whitening the untreated teeth.

The first step after your initial examination is usually teeth cleaning and whitening, so any needed restorations can be color-matched to your most brilliant, natural smile.

Porcelain Veneers

By definition, a veneer is a thin layer of porcelain applied to a surface in order to enhance and beautify it. Porcelain dental veneers are a versatile, conservative, and highly effective way to improve the appearance of your smile.

Veneers can be used to change the shape and color of your teeth; they even resist stains caused by coffee, tea, and red wine. In many cases, veneers are used in conjunction with crowns or other cosmetic procedures.

The difference between success and failure of the procedure, or between an average smile and an amazing one, lies in the skill of the dentist. Dr. Burman has extensive training and experience, as well as a natural artistic flair. He is known for creating beautiful, natural-looking smiles.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Also called composite resin fillings, this technique is a healthy and beautiful way to repair a cavity. The process is comfortable, and it can be completed in just one visit. First, Dr. Burman will examine the tooth and remove the decayed portion.

The resin, which has a putty-like consistency, is colored to match your tooth enamel and a small amount is placed in the cavity. It is smoothed and hardened, then sculpted to match the natural contours of your tooth. Finally, it is polished to a lustrous shine.

Due to the conservative nature of the procedure, and our gentle techniques, it is especially comfortable.

Porcelain Fillings

These are also colored to match your tooth. Generally, we use composite fillings for smaller cavities, and porcelain fillings for larger ones. However, each case is unique.

We begin with an examination to determine your best option. Either material will strengthen the tooth, but porcelain is stronger than composite. It can restore your tooth to nearly 100 percent of its original strength, with a natural appearance.

Dr. Burman will begin by numbing and then preparing the tooth. The process is gentle and comfortable with our advanced anesthetic delivery system. You will not have to wait for a laboratory, because we create your new filling here in the office using CEREC technology. In just one comfortable, convenient visit, your smile will be as good as new.

Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

Porcelain inlays and onlays, sometimes called partial crowns, are an excellent solution for teeth that need a bit more protection than a filling, but not a full crown. The healthy portion of the tooth structure is preserved because the restoration is designed to fit the tooth, rather than the tooth being shaped to fit the restoration.

Inlays are used when the cusps (tips) of the tooth are healthy and intact. An onlay is a bit more extensive, and covers all or part of the cusps.

Most often, we design and fabricate inlays and onlays here in our office, using the CEREC technology. After the tooth is prepared, the restoration is designed with digital precision in the CEREC machine, which carves it from a solid piece of high-strength porcelain.

Porcelain Crowns

One of the most common questions we are asked here at Burman Dental, L.L.C., is “Can you do crowns in a day?” The answer is yes!

Here in our office, the procedure for getting a dental crown is much more efficient, convenient, and comfortable than the traditional method. If a dental crown is chosen, we will prepare the tooth by removing all decay, and shaping the tooth.

With our next-generation CEREC system, there is no need for goopy impressions or even messy powder. Impressions are taken digitally, and the crown is designed using specialized software.

The data is then transferred to our CEREC milling machine, which carves your crown from a block of high-strength porcelain. Because CEREC blocks are available in multiple colors, we can customize your crown for optimal appearance and functionality.

Once Dr. Burman has verified that the appearance and fit of the crown is just right, he will cement it in place. In just one day, your broken, worn, or damaged tooth can be transformed into a beautiful, healthy, and fully functional tooth.

Gum Contouring

Your smile may be a work of art, but like a fine painting, it needs an appropriate frame to showcase its beauty truly. Healthy, uniformly colored, symmetrically shaped, and contoured gums are vital to a truly spectacular smile.

Naturally, the health of your gums is of paramount importance. Therefore, if any periodontal disease is present, treatment is essential. Like teeth, healthy gums are more attractive, and they can be further enhanced with cosmetic procedures.

Gum contouring is a surgical technique used to sculpt the gumline to achieve the ideal shape and symmetry. In our office, we use laser technology rather than traditional surgical techniques. Laser gum contouring is extremely comfortable, results in little (or no) bleeding, and does not require sutures.

It also yields amazing results, because laser technology allows for precision sculpting.

Teeth Shaping

Never underestimate the importance of fine details when it comes to the appearance of your smile. Ideal proportions and symmetry provide the “wow factor,” and subtle differences in shape can create a style that is uniquely yours.

For creating dramatic changes, porcelain veneers are usually recommended. However, smoothing rough edges, making minor adjustments, or correcting asymmetries may be accomplished with a simple procedure called teeth shaping.

Dr. Burman will gently sculpt and refine the enamel with a dental smoothing device. The procedure is fast and comfortable, and is completed during just one convenient appointment.

Teeth Whitening

This is one of the most popular procedures in our office, and for a number of very good reasons. It is fast, economical, safe, and a conservative way to put the sparkle back in your smile. Tooth enamel is naturally a lustrous shade of white, and professional teeth whitening is an excellent way to restore that brilliance.

We offer several options, because each patient has unique needs. To learn more about each option, click here.
